Hi all, does anyone know how to turn off that annoying file type blocker, which refuses to accept files of certain file types from windows messenger. I did some research and found out that it was something about an "unsafe file types database" but can't seem to find it. I also know there is a registry patch that will fix it but can't find the download of it. So does anyone know any other way or another type of way of disabling it
The filetype restriction is removed in Windows Messenger 5+. Note however that if you use MSG Plus, you'll suffer some lack of functionality because MSG Plus doesn't fully support versions of Windows Messenger higher than 4.7.
I found the simplist way of dealing with that is to just put whatever u want to send in a .zip or rar archive. That is, if u don't want to upgrade.
Note also that you can get around the filetype restriction by changing the file extension of the file you wish to send. I've done this before under windows messenger 4.7, and it works just fine. Assuming you have file extensions showing, simply change the last three characters to say... tx3, so people will know it's a renamed mp3, or txe for executible, or txw for wma/wmv, etc. You don't have to use that scheme, of course. You can just name it something like... chickens.zip, and it'd work just fine. I find it funny that microsoft considered MP3's unsafe, but not .zip... hmm, record company influence?
I have the patch that removes these restrictions; if anybody wants it send me some mail, or catch me if you can. he he he
